See the Sights and Catch a Show in Deer Park

History

Founded in 1892 by Renford Thomas Simonton, Deer Park is aptly named for the abundant deer that roamed the plains around the town. And as one of CNN’s “Most Affordable Towns,” you can make the most of your visit without breaking the bank.

Entertainment

There are a variety of things to do and places to visit in Deer Park and the surrounding area. The Battleground Golf Course, set near the historic San Jacinto battleground, is a beautiful 18-hole course complete with driving range and snack bar. Golf enthusiasts can bring the whole family and several friends to the course with outings for up to 144 people and banquet facilities supporting 250.

There’s also a notable theater group in the area – The Slightly Off Center Players, a nationally acclaimed and award-winning performing arts studio. Besides offering acting, dancing and singing lessons, the studio offers year-round shows that can entertain a family or a group of friends. Check out a fantastic show with friends, and don’t worry about designating a driver – take a limo and arrive in style.

Other attractions include the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site, which features the tallest monument in the nation, the San Jacinto Monument, and Battleship Texas.

Dining

One of Deer Park’s more famous eateries is best served early in the morning with a cup of orange juice or fresh-brewed coffee. Bosa Donuts is a local, family-owned donut shop with more than 25 different types of donuts, from plain glazed to Bavarian creme-filled. With a wide choice of kolaches, breakfast tacos and other morning delights, Bosa makes a fantastic breakfast joint to start an early day – or end a late night.

When lunchtime rolls around, few things are better than a juicy burger and delicious fries. A national chain with Texas roots, Mooyah Burgers and Fries boasts the motto, “Just Burgers. Just Fries. Just Better.” And boy, is it! But Mooyah also has a sweet secret: thick, creamy milkshakes in a variety of flavors (14 to be exact). Whether you prefer vanilla or chocolate, strawberry or mocha, Oreo or Snickers, a Mooyah’s shake caps off a perfect mid-day meal in Deer Park.

Dinner options in Deer Park are numerous. You can always find great Mexican cuisine at Las Hadas Mexican Restaurant or Bullritos, but Antonio’s Italian Restaurant is a local place worth noting. The usual Italian suspects like ravioli and eggplant parmesan are readily available, but Antonio’s also offers hoagies and other unexpected specialties. More importantly, Antonio’s caters. So the next time you have a party to throw, Antonio’s can provide delicious Italian food for the whole family.
